A weekly digest of the biggest moves, model releases, and power shifts shaping the future of AI.
Welcome to The AI Loop #13. This week, we opened the doors of our SF HQ, launched something new, and the AI world delivered big, from Anthropic's smartest model yet to the biggest M&A deal in history. Let's get into it.
Perle Labs Update

Big week at Perle Labs! We officially opened the doors of our San Francisco headquarters, a new home base as we continue to grow the team and the mission.
We also launched Human CAPTCHA Round 1, a new challenge for the community: Can you tell what's real and what's AI? It's becoming harder to spot the difference, and we're putting that to the test.
Think you can spot the difference? Stay tuned for Round 2.
Coming Up: Consensus Hong Kong + ETHDenver
Following the fun we had in Korea, we'll be at Consensus Hong Kong and ETHDenver in the coming weeks. If you're attending, come find us, we'd love to meet you. Stay up to date on our X to see what events we'll be at!

Anthropic Releases Claude Opus 4.6, Its Smartest Model Yet
Anthropic has released Claude Opus 4.6, a major upgrade to its flagship model. Opus 4.6 improves on coding skills, plans more carefully, sustains agentic tasks longer, and can operate more reliably in larger codebases. In a first for Opus-class models, it features a 1M token context window in beta.
The model achieves state-of-the-art performance on several benchmarks, including the highest score on Terminal-Bench 2.0 for agentic coding and leading results on Humanity's Last Exam, a complex multidisciplinary reasoning test. Anthropic says the intelligence gains don't come at the cost of safety — Opus 4.6 shows the lowest rate of over-refusals of any recent Claude model while maintaining strong alignment.

SpaceX Acquires xAI in $1.25 Trillion Deal — The Biggest M&A in History
Elon Musk's SpaceX has acquired xAI, the company behind Grok and social media platform X, in an all-stock deal valuing xAI at $250 billion and SpaceX at $1 trillion. The combined company is now worth $1.25 trillion, making it the largest M&A transaction ever recorded.
The deal is structured as a triangular merger, keeping xAI as a wholly owned subsidiary to insulate SpaceX from legal liabilities and avoid triggering debt covenants. SpaceX plans to go public later this year — potentially around Musk's 55th birthday in June — with some banks estimating the IPO could raise over $50 billion at a valuation exceeding $1.5 trillion.

AI Stethoscope Doubles Detection of Heart Disease
A digital stethoscope powered by AI has more than doubled the sensitivity of traditional stethoscopes in detecting moderate or severe valvular heart disease. In a study of 357 patients, the AI-augmented system detected 12 out of 13 confirmed cases (92% sensitivity), compared to just 6 detected by traditional methods (46%).
The device, developed by Eko Health and recently FDA-cleared, uses a machine learning model trained on millions of clinical data points to detect patterns the human ear might miss. Researchers noted a trade-off with more false positives, but argued the long-term value of early detection outweighs the costs — especially for patients who would otherwise progress to advanced disease stages before diagnosis.
