Nvidia's Huang Says AI Boom Will Create Six-Figure Salaries for Skilled Trades

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang told the World Economic Forum in Davos that the AI infrastructure buildout is creating a surge in high-paying blue-collar jobs. "We're talking about six-figure salaries for people who are building chip factories or computer factories or AI factories," Huang said, adding that salaries in the sector have nearly doubled.

Huang struck an optimistic tone: "Everybody should be able to make a great living. You don't need to have a PhD in computer science to do so."

With Gemini Powering Siri, Alphabet Could Soon Be the Undisputed AI Leader

Apple and Alphabet announced that Google Gemini will be the foundational AI model for the next iteration of Siri, giving iPhone users a "more personalized" assistant later this year. Reports suggest the deal could be worth billions for Alphabet, structured as a cloud computing agreement.

Gemini already has over 650 million monthly users — up from 450 million six months ago — and powers Google Search's AI Mode with 2 billion monthly queries. With Gemini soon running on both Android and iOS devices, Alphabet is positioning itself to challenge OpenAI's ChatGPT dominance.

UChicago's 'AI Advisor' Helps Scientists Steer Autonomous Labs

Researchers at the University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory have developed an "AI advisor" model that helps humans and machines share control in self-driving labs. Inspired by investment trading software, the system performs real-time data analysis and prompts researchers when it's time to adjust strategy.

The collaborative approach produced a polymer with 150% better performance than previous methods — while also identifying key factors behind the improvement. "We promote human-machine collaboration to boost discovery together," said Assistant Professor Jie Xu. The team is now working on making the AI learn from human decisions in real time.
